5 of The World’s Best Golf Courses

01/11/2017

As any avid golfer would surely attest, finding an incredible course on which to play the game is an experience unlike any other. As a sport celebrated all over the world, there is no shortage of truly spectacular courses to marvel at for their beauty, their excellent facilities and their deeply entrenched history of the sport.

Today we’re delving into 5 of the world’s most incredible golf courses

St Andrews (Old Course)

A post shared by Marc Smith (@marvathorn) on

Of course, we must start this list with the birthplace of golf itself, St Andrews in Scotland. Accredited with making golf the sport we all know and love today, this incredible course was established in the 1400’s and has a long and deeply respected history of hosting the open Championship. Chances are that most golfers know about this place and have dreamt at least once or twice about playing here themselves.

Cypress Point Club

Here in Pebble Beach, California, the green of the course meets the blue of the sea – and it’s certainly spectacular. The scenery here truly seems to be straight off a post-card and anyone who plays here reports it feeling a bit like playing in heaven. We’re not too sure how you could concentrate on the game with so much beauty around you, but we’ll have to take their word for it…

Cape Kidnappers

New Zealand is known for its amazing scenic views, but you’ve never seen anything like this before. Perched 500 feet above sea level, this gorgeous panoramic course was perfected by architect Tom Doak, who made the decision to run holes through ridges that were framed by deep, cavernous canyons. This course redefines the word ‘remote’ and captures the hearts and minds of golfers who have played here.

Portmarnock

In contrast to the ragged land of Cape Kidnappers, Portmarnock in Dublin, Ireland is so flat that you can see every feature of the course from tee to green. While still an undoubtedly challenging course, Portmarnock is known to be a fair ground for people to play on without taking it too easy on their game. Overlooking the coastline, this peaceful yet exciting location definitely deserves to be on everyone’s golfing bucket list.

Pine Valley

Tucked away in plain old New Jersey is a golf club so spectacular that it’s often voted in the top 3 best courses in America and the world. This course was created from nothing in the early 1900’s, finally being completed for the first time in 1918 with 18 holes. But this course isn’t just easy on the eyes; it’s known for being incredibly trying for even the most experienced of golfers. In fact, it took over 3 years for anybody to complete it in 70 strokes. Although it’s frequently referred to as the most difficult course in the world, that doesn’t stop people from trying desperately to play a game here simply to see if they have what it takes.
